Angelina Jolie Spoke To John Kerry About International Women’s Day

ELLE magazine recently published an interview between Angelina Jolie and John Kerry, titled What Angelina Jolie Is Fighting For Now. Last year, Angelina’s biggest fight might have been against the urge to leak any more messy details about Brad Pitt. But this fight is bigger and covers more ground.

Angelina wants people to know she’s a proud patriot, and that she’s the only person in her house who was born in America. She also wants to be more political. Watch out Oprah, you’re not the only one who can subtly tease a political career. Angelina says she was very “anti-political” in her younger days, but that years of humanitarian work showed her that she needed to explore the root of the problem, which often was political in nature.

Angelina is also into climate change, and fighting violence against women. She covers more ground than a pageant contestant during the interview portion. But since the interview was technically about International Women’s Day and not just a chit-chat between Angelina and her friend John, she also talked about what kind of advice she gives her daughters.

“I tell my daughters, ‘What sets you apart is what you are willing to do for others. Anyone can put on a dress and makeup. It’s your mind that will define you. Find out who you are, what you think, and what you stand for. And fight for others to have those same freedoms. A life of service is worth living.'”

Shiloh and Vivienne made a special guest appearance in their mom’s photoshoot for ELLE.

But back to that advice. That’s a lot of pressure to put on your kids! They are still children of famous people, after all. They deserve at least a couple years after they turn 21 to act like messy, wealthy nepotistic spawn of famous people before they settle down and apply for a humanitarian internship program at the UN. It’s not fair mom, you got to do it when you were younger!

  1. We couldnt wear nail polish until high school.

  2. Hey! I wrote that!!!

  3. Her Many Cats

And, she’s “American Born!” The article says!

  4. So fucking gorgeous.

  5. Her Many Cats

I’m imagining Jen’s crushed by that assumption.

  6. Okay. This bitch is older then me, I know NOTHING about technology (I play all my music on vinyl and got my first camera phone a year ago), and even I can use fucking Amazon. It’s not that hard.

  7. Drunken Sue-Ellen

Did Angelina realize Brad’s production company was the only reason she had work? Is that why the divorce is dragging? She wants a piece. She needs it to keep her career afloat.

  8. Drunken Sue-Ellen

I’m still waiting for her to speak about Irritable Bowl Syndrome. We need you, Ange!

  9. dr. playa: dire twat

Vivienne seems to be out way less, but she comes out. Whenever she does, girl looks very upset and overwhelmed.

  10. But he does get to see them, he has visitation rights.

  11. “there are plenty of soup kitchens right in your own backyard if you wanted to teach the kids about service.”

The Target where she couldn’t find hot dogs was where, Eagle Rock? There’s a great place called The Women’s Room, funded by a multifaith charity, kind of near there. If Angie’s people are reading this, they always need volunteers, sacks of money, socks, canned goods etc. I know a badass old lady who helps out there all the time. Also if anyone from the D would like to donate/volunteer, here is more info:

  12. He actually loves Banana shake.

  13. Vera Charles

Really? I think she looks stunning on the cover. And I love the art direction.

  14. Seems a little weird to me she’d tell her children what defines them. I mean, I agree, it’s not about hair or makeup, really. But, how about just being honest with them and letting them figure things out for themselves?

  15. I’m one of three sisters – I was the tomboy & still never dressed as manly as those girls do – my other sister was preppy & my baby sister was bohemian/vintage – no way all three daughters want to dress like drab men.

  16. “raising awareness” – translated to doing shit about it just getting attention from talking about it.

  17. Oh my goodness, yes! Their faces are both severe and startling to look at. Plastic surgery NEVER makes anyone look younger – it only makes them look as if they’ve had plastic surgery.

  18. Lol, okay Angie. Is that why you dress up all your daughters as boys?

  19. ThenTheLordMadeYolettie

Is it just me or do we NEVER see Vivienne?? She looks pretty but unrecognizable here (although its hard to tell in the b&w). I recall knox and Shiloh but never Viv………….

  20. Well don’t you find their faces sort of scary looking? I always wonder how their husbands can stand looking at them. I guess their friends don’t notice since they all look like someone took a knife to their face and carved up the joker. I know it is hard to know when to stop, and I am old fashioned but I find a soft face with wrinkles prettier than a tight plastic inflated face.

  21. Rodmilla De Ghent

the cover is not her fault right….

  22. Yep, her agenda is becoming more obvious.

  23. Yes, of course. A good mother would ensure her kids were dressed very well and very neat.

I can’t believe that is Carys! Wow!

  24. It’s weird because some of them have very interesting backgrounds, and they’re the ones who don’t talk about all that stuff. Like the older generation that’s dying off, and served in WWII or was evacuated during WWII. People who actually survived disaters, or grew up with parents in prison tend to just keep keep their heads down and work. It’s the ones who only have theories & no experience who shout about fixing everything.

  25. She’s afraid that her kids would talk too much about their weird home life. Homeschooling is a way to control that.
